Jammu, February 17 (KNO) : Winter capital Jammu of the state remained under strict curfew for third straight day and people where asked to remain indoors on Sunday while large posse of forces were deployed in the region to control any eruption of law and order situation.
Curfew was imposed in Jammu following violence by mobsters targeting Kashmiris and members of specific community in some parts in which more than hundred vehicles were torched. Arsonists had attacked civil secretariat employees from Kashmir as well. District authorities Jammu told KNO that they will be reviewing situation in the meeting late today.
“If situation shows improvement we may issue relaxation but that will depend on the inputs by law enforcement agencies and other departments," an officials said. According to KNO correspondent forces were deployed in large number at various location including in sensitive areas to thwart any protests.
"Police kept surveying areas imposing curfew and asking people to stay indoors till further orders. They also asked people to not protest,” reports said. Protesters had also attacked Kashmiri civil secretariat employees who have boycotted to join services until their families are transported back to valley safely. Complete shutdown was observed across Kashmir division of the state against harassment of Kashmiris in Jammu and other parts of India following killing of more than 40 CRPF personnel in a Fidayeen attack in Pulwama.
According to KNO correspondent all the business establishments remained closed across valley and traffic remained off the roads.Reports of shutdown were received from all district headquarters in north, south and central Kashmir. Traders fraternity of Kashmir had asked for a shutdown against the violence that erupted against Kashmiri students, tenants, traders and bus drivers. Drivers association on Saturday protested against the harassment and asked government to ensure safe return of drivers to valley.(KNO)
